The Aadhar card is a unique identification card which is issued by Unique Identification Authority of India(UIDAI). This is assigned to every Indian citizen.The card has 12 digit number that serves as a proof of identity as well as proof of address. Moreover, it contains individual’s biometric and demographic information.

The PAN(Permanent Account Number) card is issued by Income Tax Department, assigned to all taxpaying entities in India. PAN is a unique 10 character code which is necessary for filing Income Tax returns in the country.
How To LINK Aadhar with PAN Card :
This linking process can be done in 2 ways:
1. Link Aadhar with PAN by using a SMS based process.

SMS Format:
UIDPAN<12 digit Aadhar><10 digit PAN>
Example:
UIDPAN 3421342112341234AAAAAE12EE
Send the above SMS to 567678 or 56161.
After the UIDAI verifies the data, the linking process will get completed.
2. Linking Aadhar with PAN through official website.
It is a 3 step process.
Step1:
v Open the Income Tax e-filing Portal and register.
v We can login on the page by entering your PAN as your User ID, password and Date of Birth.
Step2:
v Enter the required details like name, DOB, and gender as per PAN card.
v Now enter the 12 digit Aadhar number.
v Verify captcha.
v Finally, click on Link Aadhar button.
Step3:
The above screen displays the message that Aadhar and PAN cards are linked successfully.
Purpose of Linking Aadhar Card with PAN Card:
There are 3 most important uses of this linking process. They are:
1. Linking of these two documents will help the people to file their Income Tax Returns easily and quickly. Since by linking the PAN and Aadhar Card people need not have to submit their Income Tax acknowledgement to the IT Department, hence it is very simple to file the IT returns.
2. Most important purpose of linking Aadhar and PAN card is to prevent Tax Evasion. Every taxable transaction or activity will be recorded by the Government. Hence, the Government will already have a detailed record of all financial transactions for each entity.
3. Entities applying for multiple PAN cards in an effort to cheat the Government and avoid paying taxes can be reduced. The Government can easily keep track of all financial transactions made by the people who have linked the PAN card and Aadhar card. If a person tries to get multiple PAN Cards under the same name they he/she can be caught red-handed by the Government. Then, the Government will take corrective action.
Facility Launched by IT Department:
The linking facility provided by the Income Tax department. In addition to that two hyperlinks are added in their official site. The first hyperlink will takes to the application page for Permanent Account Number by an Indian national or foreigner. The second hyperlink is used for updating all necessary changes in the Aadhar card provided by the users. An individual can easily log on to the Aadhar SSUP(Self Service Update Portal) he/she can perform updation process in the Aadhar card details given by them.
CONCLUSION:
The Finance Minister of India, Mr.Arun Jaitley made the Aadhar mandatory for the filing of Income Tax. All of us should support this so that the tax evaders are not able to avoid their tax payments by showing multiple PAN Cards.
